TIMBAVATI GAME RESERVE
In Timbavati the landscape is quite open, generally more so than in Sand Sands. 530 square kilometers in size, it is just slightly smaller than it's neighbour, but there are also fewer properties on this just slightly smaller area. Timbavati has 15 lodges and camps, Sabi Sand 43. As a result you are likely to encounter less vehicles on game drives, and the animals are a little less habituated. Lodge rates here are also, on average, lower than in Sabi Sand.
Wildlife
Bordering the Kruger National Park on one side and Klaserie on the other, Timbavati is also a prime Big 5 game-viewing area, and a hot spot for African wild dogs (Cape hunting dogs), great for cheetah, and also pretty good for leopard. It also has the only wild white lions left in the world.
How to get there
The closest airport to Timbabavi Hoedspruit airport, but of course there are also private airstrips, serviced by scheduled charter flights. And for those on a budget, or who simply like to travel overland to also see something of the land in-between the airports we can organise private or shared road transfers, which can also include the scenic Panorama Route.
