ZANZIBAR ISLAND
Even though it is part of Tanzania, Zanzibar Island is semi-autonomous. The island is part of the Zanzibar Archipelago, which consists of about 50 islands that range from tiny outcrops to bigger, populated islands. Zanzibar Island, properly called Unguja, is the biggest and main island of the Archipelago, the second biggest is Pemba Island. The capital is Zanzibar City with a historic centre called Stone Town, a World Heritage Site worth a stop of 1 or 2 nights before heading to the beach.
