TEMBE ELEPHANT PARK
Tembe Elephant Park is reputedly home to the largest elephants you will find in Africa. If you are looking for "tuskers" (elephants with large tusks) then Tembe is where you need to go. The park is also home to the Big 5 and part of its charm is that it is located in one of the least developed and least visited safari areas in South Africa, right on the border of Mozambique.
The park is part of the ancestral home of the Tembe tribe, who founded the reserve in 1983 and continue to look after it today. The park was founded to protect the elephants, as well as the sand forest vegetation that makes up this part of South Africa. Hidden within the forest, if you are very lucky, you will be able to spot the suni, one of the smallest and rarest antelopes in South Africa.
Accommodation
There is only one lodge inside the park, a tented lodge, with comfortable beds, outdoor showers and a swimming pool. It has everything you need for those wanting to go somewhere a bit more remote. Tembe Elephant Park Lodge is the lowest priced full-service game lodge in a National Park in Southern Africa
