DURBAN
Durban is the warmest city in South Africa with very mild winters and is therefore where the majority of South Africans head for a beach holiday, any time of the year. Being the biggest city in KwaZulu Natal, with its only international airport, it is also usually the starting point for any safari to one of the KwaZulu Natal Game Reserves, such as Hluhluwe-iMfolozi, Phinda or Nambiti.
Thus, it is quite easy to add a few nights in Durban before or after your safari for a classic bush and beach getaway. However, if you are specifically focussed on a warm beach holiday, we would recommend looking at our isiMangaliso Wetland Park page. Apart from the beach, there is not much to see and do in Durban and therefore all of our favourite hotels listed below are within easy walking distance of the beach. The north coast of Durban is where you will find the majority of luxurious hotels, including the famous Oyster Box Hotel, while the south coast is more rugged and understated.
