Lake Kariba, situated on the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia, is so large that it is almost a seaside getaway for Zimbabweans. Over 200km and 40km wide, the shores of the lake are dotted with attractive beaches, encouraging you to relax. Be careful where you go though, because the lake is also home to a large collection of wildlife, including hippos, crocodiles, elephants, giraffes, lions and rhinos.
Matasudona National Park, on the shores of the lake, is where you will find the majority of the wild animals you are searching for. Being as big and beautiful as it is, the lake is very popular for houseboat holidays, sunset cruises and fishing safaris. Bring your camera and all your photographic know-how because Lake Kariba is home to arguably the best sunsets in Zimbabwe. When the sun sets over the shores of the still lake, the waters reflect the golden colours of the sky and everyone enjoys the challenge of getting the best sunset snapshot.
