SEYCHELLES DIVING
The Republic of Seychelles is a cluster of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean off Africa’s east coast, just south of the equator and is split into the Inner Islands and the Outer Islands.
Inner Islands
The inland islands of Seychelles have the advantage of being on a granite and coral plateau, and offer a diverse marine life (more than 900 fish species have been recorded there). With many of dive sites, decent fauna and flora, the Seychelles granite islands are an easy place to discover the underwater world. Dive sites go to a maximum depth of 40 metres, there is no current, allowing beginners to experience divers beginners to have fun.
Outer Islands
The Seychelles outer islands are by far the most preserved islands of the Seychelles and amongst the least dived coral reefs on earth. These untouched of paradise are a “must” for qualified divers.. Drift dives dramatically increase the chances of encountering sharks, whale sharks, manta rays and other superior sized fish species to that of inland islands. The best islands to dive from are Alphonse, Cosmoledo, Desroches, or liveaboards. Once a year there trips out to the islands of the Amirantes, Farqhuar and Aldabra island groups.
Seasons
Different season offers completely different diving experience for scuba divers. In the June-July-August months, the archipelago is hit by south-east monsoon making the temperature to drop to 25 degree centigrade. The colder water are then filled with planktons that make the underwater visibility difficult for the divers. However, the planktons being highly nutritious attract a lot of whale share that are otherwise rare to be spotted in the water.November to May can be considered to be the best time for scuba diving in Seychelles as the climate is hot and humid; the water is crystal clear which allows an uninterrupted visibility up till 30 meters. The December to February stretch experiences heavy downpour but otherwise the sea remains calm.
