MAUN
Maun is a small town in Botswana which has developed into the tourism capital of Botswana due to it being the gateway to the Okavango Delta, the Moremi Game Reserve and also to the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and the Makgadikgadi National Park. Usually, guests will fly into Maun and once they land at the airport, will be met by a guide who will direct them to the light aircraft which will take them into the untouched wilderness, or start their mobile camping safari from there.
The town itself is small and dusty, home to 55,000 people and what feels like a similar amount of donkeys and cows, which make no effort to stay off the roads. Thanks to the money brought in by tourists, a number of good hotels have developed in Maun, as well as supermarkets. Any guests doing mobile camping safaris will have to stop off in one of these supermarkets to buy supplies before heading off into the delta. Usually, tourists will only spend one night in Maun if their international flight doesn't connect well with the start or end of their safari. If you do have to spend the night in Maun, you will find a list of our recommended hotels in the section below.
