JOHANNESBURG
Johannesburg is the biggest city in South Africa and its financial capital. As a result of its geographical position within Southern Africa, it is a major flight hub and used as a stopover by travellers on their way to other destinations, such as the Kruger Park, Cape Town, Victoria Falls and Botswana. Despite being the biggest city in South Africa, Johannesburg has little to offer in terms of tourism and most travellers will only stop over here for one night, if not just transiting through.
Activities
However, for those with an interest in history or culture, a tour of Soweto and the Apartheid Museum is a must. This is where you will be able to come face to face with the devastating effects of South Africa's past apartheid policy and learn about the different cultures that make up the 'Rainbow Nation'.
Further afield, about 2 hours away is the Cradle of Humankind, home of some remarkable archeaological discoveries regarding mankind's early ancestors. For anyone with an interest in evolution or early human history, this is a must see. The museum houses many specimens of Austrolopethicines and is where the famous skull of Mrs Ples was found (although archeologists now think Mrs Ples was actually a man.)

Those include mainly our favourites sorted from low-key to deluxe, which are usually smaller properties with very personalised service, but also some bigger places, if they are the best or only option available.
