Ndaka Safari Lodge
Ndaka Safari Lodge features an African farmstead that has been converted into a family style getaway. The Lodge has six safari- chic double en-suite bedrooms. The open plan lounge and dining room together with the lapa (entertainment area) with its built-in barbeque, the large fenced-in indigenous garden, swimming pool and open fire pit overlooking the bushveld make Ndaka Safari Lodge the ideal getaway for families and friends. Stunning new boutique-style safari tents (don’t be fooled by the name - they are a far cry from camping!) are also being created and several are already welcoming guests. The lodge is fully fenced (the fence carries a very dangerous and high voltage to keep animals out so never leave your young children unattended) and has a large indigenous garden. There is also a swimming pool with loungers and a lovely lapa, braai & fire pit area.
Family Friendly
Of all the lodges we visited in the Reserve – Ndaka was our eight year old’s favourite! He loved it because: he was given his own kiddy toiletry pack and activity book on arrival, he liked the accessibility of all the games in the lounge and the fact he could bowl around from our room to the lounge and the garden easily; the atmosphere was welcoming and informal; each mealtime he discovered his own fun children’s table settling and found the fare to his simple taste and suited to his appetite; he loved the pet warthog; the trampoline and garden were all in easy reach and there were plenty of other children staying when we visited.
Our ten-month-old son also travels with us regularly and we took him on his first safari with Ndaka. Not all lodges or parks allow children under two in game viewing vehicles. Needless to say – of course he loved it and was very quiet and fell asleep in his car seat in the Land Cruiser! Not all parents or babies are as used to such travel and not all parents would want to take such young children on safari – but the option is there at Ndaka. Or you can choose to stay behind and relax in the lodge where you will be made to feel very comfortable with your baby. All in all in our view this makes Ndaka an ideal place for a family safari at an affordable price in a non-malarial zone not far off the beaten track.
Game Drives / Cheetah Interaction
All the lodges we work with in the Reserve offer their guests morning and evening game drives each day. Ndaka morning game drives depart at 5.30 or 6 am depending on the season. Each drive lasts approximately 3 hours and will include refreshments and tailored game viewing to suit the group requirements and interests. Game viewing numbers are limited in the Reserve which means that everyone has a chance to view the animals without disturbing them unduly. Not only will you have a chance to spot the Big Five amongst many other mammal species - birders will delight as there are at least 250 different species of birds in the reserve.
Ndaka also offers guests the chance to pre-book trips to the Kwa Cheetah Breeding Project (usually at 11am and 2pm most days of the week), where visitors can interact with cheetahs, a leopard, servals, a caracal and African wild cats and enjoy a coffee in the pretty coffee shop.
