UW Compact Photo Workshop, Pemba Island, Zanzibar

A self-taught photojournalist, Christopher started taking underwater photos with a second-hand 2 megapixel Canon in 2005. Since then he has upgraded and tried a variety of brands but he insists on using the sort of camera that you or I take on holiday. His work has been published across the globe in publications X-Ray, Diver (British and North American editions), Divestyle, African Diver, Duik, Dyk, Beyond Blue, Diving Australasia, Nuigini Blue, Our Way, FHM, Scuba Diver Girls, and Dive Bunnies. He has also shot pictures for brochures and promotional material for clients in the Red Sea, Eastern and Southern Africa, and South America.  Most of the images used were taken with a compact camera. Now he would like to share his experience and skills with you, to help you get the most out of your camera on the amazing walls and reefs of the East African island of Pemba during  five-day workshops that will run in  November 2011, and June 2012.

• ·  Equipment preparation and set-up
• ·  Underwater guidance and subject finding
• ·  Composition,  lighting, no-flash photography
• ·  Buoyancy control and breathing
• ·  Analysis and discussion of pictures taken
• ·  Digital image photo processing (Picasa3, iPhoto, Photoshop)
•    Only six participants per week

Pemba is an excellent spot for many reasons:

• Abundant corals (hard and soft, and lots of sponges)
• Diversity of subjects (corals, fish, crustaceans, nudibranchs, etc.)
• Only one boat on the dive site
• Small groups
• Visibility
• Sunlight

It is also possible to extend your stay, combine your trip with a safari in one of the Tanzanian parks and/or a visit to Unguja, the other island of the Zanzibar archipelago, or the excellent Mafia island and Marine Park.
